Blackmagic Multiview 16

The Blackmagic Multiview 16 makes full use of the fact it is the world’s first multi-viewer with Ultra HD as its native resolution. Having twice the sharpness and standard HD, it is easy to display up to 16 simultaneous views. You do not even have to be using UltraHD recording or capture equipment, just an Ultra HD or HD monitor. The viewer will accept up to 16 different SD, HD or UltraHD SDI sources and combine them into one easy-to-view display. There are options to display 4, 9, or 16 views and each input includes a full-frame re-synchroniser .

Equally at home in a control room or on set, this useful device and a single large monitor will take up far less space than a collection of smaller monitors and all their associated power cabling. The display output has the flexibility of 2×2 layout for 4 sources, 3×3 for 9 sources and 4×4 for 16 sources. The inputs can be different resolutions and different video standards.

Made from machined metal, the unit is extremely user-friendly with easy source selection using dedicated buttons and a spin knob to place images on any position on the grid. Instant full-screen “solo” viewing is possible at any time for any one of your sources.

With the availability of Ultra HD consumer televisions, now it’s possible to use the extra resolution these displays have to build incredibly sharp multi view monitoring at low cost. Blackmagic MultiView 16 is incredibly flexible as it allows you to choose from 2×2 layout for 4 sources, 3×3 layout for 9 sources and 4×4 layout for 16 simultaneous sources, all from the front panel. Each of the inputs can be any combination of SD, HD and Ultra HD, all at the same time so it’s just like having 16 independent broadcast monitors on the single display.

Use HD or Ultra HD Monitors

MultiView 16 works with both regular HD as well as the latest Ultra HD displays, so you get maximum compatibility with your existing HD equipment but have the choice to use an Ultra HD monitor for incredible sharpness. That’s four times the number of pixels in each view so your video will look sharper and clearer than ever before possible. Using an Ultra HD monitor means you get an incredible 1920 x 1080 full resolution HD in each view when running 2×2 for 4 views. Even if you’re running 4×4 for 16 views, each view will still display an amazing 960 x 540 pixels! You get both 6G-SDI and HDMI outputs so you can connect direct to televisions, video projectors and broadcast monitors.

Elegant Design

Featuring a compact,machined metal single rack unit design, MultiView 16 is incredibly easy to use because it has dedicated buttons on the front panel for quickly selecting any source into any of the views. Once selected, video can be routed to any position on the grid at the push of a button or you can simply use the spin knob control so it works just like a video router. Use the SOLO button for instant full screen monitoring of any source at any time! MultiView 16 also features a built in multi voltage AC power supply and professional broadcast 6G-SDI input connections with loop through so it integrates easily into any facility.

6G-SDI Multi Rate SDI Connections

MultiView 16 includes sixteen multi rate 6G-SDI inputs with separate loop thru that are compatible with all of your existing SD, HD and Ultra HD equipment. It does not matter what video standard each input connection is running as each input view will act as an independent video monitor, so you can even have up to 16 different video standards connected all at the same time! All inputs feature automatic re-sync so you can even mix and match non referenced SD, HD, and Ultra HD sources! The reference input is included if you want to connect the Blackmagic MultiView 16 to other studio equipment.

External “Router” Control

MultiView 16 includes Ethernet which emulates a Blackmagic Videohub router protocol so you get full compatibility with all of the external Videohub software and hardware control panels for routing any of the inputs onto any of the monitoring views. Blackmagic MultiView 16 can also be controlled via the included software utility on Mac or Windows computers so that you can quickly change settings remotely if access to the front panel is restricted! You can even add on screen labels and other settings remotely!

With a design that includes an interactive front panel, you can mount Blackmagic MultiView 16 in desks so that you can interact with it, changing the display mode and rearranging inputs as you need. When you need to install behind monitors, Blackmagic MultiView 16 can be remote controlled via the external Ethernet settings so you can change settings if required. Super Fast Control

When you’re working on a live production or in a master control room, you need to be able to quickly switch views on the fly. Setting up and using MultiView 16 couldn’t be easier! There are no confusing menus, cryptic buttons or long manuals to read. The front panel has 16 simple buttons, one for each of your video sources. The LCD screen, spin knob, and SRC/VIEW buttons, let you place each source into any position on the multi view grid. There’s even a SOLO button for instantly viewing a single source.

External Software Control

Multiview 16 can be connected to a standard Ethernet IP network and uses Bonjour so it’s automatically recognised by Mac and Windows computers running control panel software. That means you can control Blackmagic Multiview 16 remotely, even if it’s in a hard to reach rack or equipment closet…or on the other side of the world. The software uses attractive, easy to understand icons and push-buttons, making it simple and intuitive to use. You can easily add router labels to your outputs, view tally indicators and more.

Hardware Control Panels

When you’re working in a larger facility, you may want to control your Blackmagic MultiView 16 from other locations away from the front panel itself. That’s easy because you can control Blackmagic MultiView 16 using Blackmagic’s Videohub Smart Control or Videohub Master Control hardware panels. Simply plug the control panel into the Ethernet network for push-button control. The hardware panels even support power over Ethernet so they can be installed in locations without external power.

Loop Through SDI

The future proof design of Blackmagic MultiView 16 includes multi rate 6G-SDI inputs with low jitter and automatic frame re-synchronization of all inputs. Each loop output is reclocked so you can put the Blackmagic MultiView 16 inline with other SDI equipment such as on the inputs to live production switchers for camera source monitoring, or on the outputs of SDI video outputs to create monitoring overviews of all the live feeds in your facility! That’s incredible flexibility and reduces your need to have reserved router outputs dedicated just to monitoring.

Flexible Installation

Even though Blackmagic MultiView 16 is designed to be rack mounted, it’s still small enough to be placed behind monitors and in tight locations, even inside walls! The secret is the remote Ethernet control allowing installation into locations where you cannot easily access the front panel. With a full control panel built in, Blackmagic MultiView 16 is ideal for mounting in consoles and desks so you can change settings, set views, route inputs and access the SOLO feature at the push of a button. Blackmagic MultiView 16 is not much larger than a simple control panel, but includes all the electronics built into its small size so it’s easy to install when space is tight.

International AC Power

The built in power supply supports 90V to 240V AC so it can be used anywhere internationally and will just work when plugged in. Often broadcast trucks and fly away kits need to be moved between countries that operate under different voltages, and now it’s easy to do that because Blackmagic MultiView 16 includes a premium multi voltage power supply that’s able to handle a wide range of voltages.
